The ideas and designs for my work, especially the overglaze painting, often originate from photographs I have taken of subjects that interest me. A love of photography is coupled with the opportunity to capture nature and bring it into my studio where I can use the subject and its inspiration in my designing process. Photographic records are important for me, as it is often not possible to have the actual flower or scene in front of me as I work. I love Australian wildflowers, grasses and trees and these are the basis of many of my designs.
Several series of work, spanning ceramics, glass and paper, have been based on photographic records of trips to various places such as the Daintree Rainforest in northern Queensland and Venice. The importance of good photographs that record both my adventures and feelings while in these places can be seen in the finished works. I would like to share some of these photographs with you.
